“THE CRUCIFIXION.”

METHODIST CHURCH TO-NIGHT

The. accommodation of the Methodist Church to-night will he taxed to ils utmost when the combined local choirs, under the conductorship of Mr Harold Osborne, will sing Sir John Stainer’s “Meditation on the Sacred Passion of the Holy Redeemer.” This beautiful composition demands a great deal of the singers, and if is a matter for congratulation that sufficient talent can be obtained and trained for such a production in such a comparatively small community. .Judging, however, by the successful rehearsals, a really good interpretation will result. The work comprises twenty numbers three of which are hymns for the congregation to join in. The hymn “When T Survey the VVonrous Cross” and prayer will precede the oratorio, the headings of which arc as- follows: Relitativc, “And they came to a place called Gefhsemane." The Agony; Processional to Cavalry: “Fling wide the" Gates;” recitative, “When they were coine io the place called Calvary”; The Mystery of the Divine Humiliation : The Majesty of the Divine Humiliation; “King Ever Glorious”; recitative, “And as Moses Lifted up the Serpent”; chorus, “God so Loved the World”; Litany of the .Passion; Recitative and Chorus, “Father Porgive Them”; The Mystery of Intercession: “Jesus the Crucified Pleads for Me”; Recitative, “And one of the Malefactors”; The Adoration of the Crucified: recitatives. “When .Jesns Therefore saw His Mother," and “Is it nothing to you”; The Appeal of the Crucified, “Prom the Throne of His Cross”: Recitative and Chorus, “After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished”; “For the Love of .Jesus.”

At the Century Hall, Levin, last night, the ,‘Crucifixion” was rendered to a large and keenly appreciative audience./£ he conductor and soloists received flattering commendations on the production.
