THE BURDEN OF TAXATION!
WHO SHALL BEAR IT? (To The Editor) Sir, —The “Welfare League's” latest epistle of Saturday, in its attempt to holster up Mr, Massey’s iniquitous' Government has “let the Cat out of the hag.” Tt talks about bringing in a policy of tax reductions “’especially on large incomes.” So this is their game, is it—to help their wealthy conservative friends by reducing taxation “especially on large incomes?” This would be. very nice for the wealthy Banking Companies, financial institutions, capitalists and profiteers, whose incomes are enormous, but what about the small farmers, the business men and the struggling people who are worn out by Mr Massey’s iniquitous schemes? Now. why should large incomes be “specially" relieved of taxation? Those who have large incomes ought to be thankful that they have the large incomes to pay the lax with. Surely the people who should be “especially" considered are those whose incomes are too small to pay tax on. The “Welfare League's" latest squeal is very pathetic. It is greatly concerned about the people with large incomes who keep Mr Massey in office for their own selfish ends but the country is sick and tired of them all, and of the Massey Government which is tied to them body and soul. The handwriting is on the wall —they have got to go out and make room for a real democratic Government which will consider all the people, not merely a few wealthy magnates who happen to have “large incomes.” —I am, etc., P. L. HOLDINGS.
