MOTOR COLLISION

TWO PASSENGERS INJURED.* A collision between two motorears travelling in opposite directions took place yesterday afternoon at the junction of Russell St. with the Foxton-Palmerston North Road. The collision resulted in the occupants of one ear being more or less seriously injured. The car proceeding up Russell St. was occupied by Mr and Mrs Bills and son and Mr and Mrs Box. of Otaki. They noticed an oncoming ear, occupied by Mrs Martin Boyle of Himataiigi, coming round the bend of the main road and slowed down to take the corner. At the same time the Wellington-Wanganui car was proceeding towards Airs Boyle’s car from Park Street and her attention was directed to this'just prior to taking ttie Russell St. corner and colliding with Mr Bills’ ear. The farce of the impact threw Airs Bills out of the car and on to the road and unseated the other occupants. Mr Box received a nasty gash on the nose, which was also broken and Air Bills and his son received minor cuts, the other occupant of the ear, Airs Box, was uninjured. The occupants of Airs Boyle’s ear were uninjured. Both ears were more or less damaged. Airs Bills and Air Box were conveyed to Dr. Wvllie’s residence where their injuries were attended to and they were subsequently conveyed to their homes at Otaki. Besides being badly shaken, Mrs Bills received a very bad bruise on the forehead, rupturing a vein, which may require a slight operation. Upon inquiry from Otaki this morning, we were informed that Airs Bills and Mr Box are progressing favourably but are confined to their beds. The corner where the accident happened has been the scene of numerous minor accidents. At the spot, the main road takes an.unnecessary bend round a growth of lupins which although having no apparent bearing on the present accident, obscures the view. This portion of the road should be straightened if accidents are to be avoided in future.
