SCHOOL CHILDREN AND THE FLEET.
EXCURSION' AND MEALS. W’eiiington, April ID. Apart from the decision to run special excursion trains for country school children to visit the coming warships at Wellington, Dunedin, Auckland, Lyttelton and the Biun, the Government has decided to provide a free midday meal for these children.
So far the local school committee has not received any oihciai intimation as to what arrangements are being made by the authorities, it is questionable whether a special train could be arranged for Pox ton to Palmerston hi. to link up with the Palmerston hi. school excursion. An alternative would be if sufficient inducement ottered, to convey local children by motor lorries to Levin or Shannon and catch the excursion train there. This would mean extra expense for the children and auded responsibility for those in charge.
