ARRESTED AFTER NINE YEARS

Another instance of the long arm of flu* law was instanced in the case of Daniel McLaren, who was arrested by Detective Lean yesterday on a warrant nine years old. He appeared before the Police Court today. before Mr 'Bartholomew, S.M., charged with at Dunedin, on March 25, 1.915, being a bookmaker, lie made a bet on lieensed premises, and further that on March 24. 3.913, he entered a bet on the result of Handieap at the ■Southland Racing Club’s meeting at Invercargill, whereby lie agreed to pav.a sum of money which was dependent on I lie result of the working ol the totalisnlor. and ul.-o with entering a bet on the Roslyn Hack Handicap at the same meeting. chief Detective Lewi.- -aid that Hie accused had been in Australia for nine years and arrived back in Dunedin by the Mueraki on The case was remanded till April Hi, bail being allowed accused in £SO and one surety of €SO.
