MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held at Sanson on Wednesday, Sir James Wilson presiding, There were also present:— Councillors H. H. Hunt, J. Boyce, W. E. Barber, W. S. Penny, J. Me Kelvie and H. J. Fagan. The Council decided to agree to the request of the Main Highways Board to continue to maintain roads on behalf of the Board, pending the coming into operation of the new controlling legislation. Some discussion took place over the question of visitors’ admission tickets to the Palmerston N. Hospital and it was resolved that the Palmerston N. Hospital Board be written to with a request that endeavours he made to make more convenient arrangements for country visitors on being admitted to the hospital for the purpose of seeing patients. Accounts amounting to £2,047 4s 6d were passed for payment. A motion was passed authorising a rebate of 3.1 per cent, on all rates paid within thirty days of the rate notice being received. Kawa Kawa, Awahon and Carnarvon Ridings :—The tractor and grader have been employed trimming and grading on the Palmerston N.Foxton Road, and also a portion of the Foxton Road from Himiiangi to Makowhai. The grader and tractor are undergoing repairs before com mcneing work on the Halcombe-Mt. Biggs Road. The contractor for supplying and delivering metal on Whirokino Road is making firstclass progress with the work, and expects to complete the contract during the present week. Melal has also been carted along FoxtoiiSliannon Road and a section of M<>t<»i(i Road was graded up during the month.
Slone Crushed. —Crushing operations were suddenly slopped lasi month and the on I put- was only 599 yards for fourteen days crushing. The flood caused considerable delay and damage to the hauling line and tram wav. The wire ropes and tramway were buried several led deep in the metal for a number of chains and sections of the tram line were scattered down the river bed for half a mile. A considerable length of the line is still buried under a shingle bed which we hope to recover later. Thousands of yards of first class metal was brought down |,v the flood and tilled in the old working pit. We have now put the line in order and the crushers are working again. The distance we are hauling the metal now is about half of what we were doing before the flood, and the quality of the metal has improved beyond doubt. —Adopted. TRAMWAY REPORT.
The chief items of (radio were: Merchandise 11SA tons, cheese and butter 1041 tons, minerals and manure 186.', tons, stock *1 trucks, metal 500 cnbie yards. Fares amounted to £1 7/8. The accounts show a credit balance of £42 6/11 for the month’s working. The sale of locomotive Rangitikei has been completed and a deposit of £25 paid. It has cost £1 1 to put the engine in running order. —Adopted.

On March 21 and 22 we set a trap for motorists going through Sanson to the Bulls races and I am pleased to report that the recent prosecutions of motors have had a good effect, as drivers passing through travelled at a very moderate speed on these days. On the 21st only one offender wns caught, and on the 22nd two were caught. These will he dealt with in due course. The silent policeman was used to good effect on both days. Fines totalled .02. pedlar’s license 10 -. Dog registrations collected to date amount to €4O. —Adopted.
