OBSCENE LANGUAGE
DRASTIC PUXTSHMENT
At the Palmerston X. Police Coiirl vcslerdav Thomas McDonald. a well-dressed man, was charged that on April 2nd he did use obscure language in a railway carriage between Shannon and Palmerston X.
Evidence was given by the guard and a passenger. AirlTodder (on the Bench) to accused, after the hearing of evidence: This is a very serious offence, and the Bench considers that you are not deserving of an option of a fine. A fine does not seem to make a sufficient impression upon young men like you. You used had language in a carriage within hearing of women and children and continued to do so. This kind of thing has got to be put down. You will he sentenced to three months imprisonment. Accused was also ordered to pay w itnesses’ -expenses. 30/-. in default seven davs.
