NEWS AND NOTES.

The Mnister of Internal At)airs has advised Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., that there is a possibility that a visit may he made to Pamerston North by 50 officers and between 400 and 500 men, drawn from H.M.S. Hood and Repulse, which will shortly arrive in New Zealand waters. The iutinerary of the Dominion visit, is, however, not yet definitely drawn up. A Westport message stales that a claim by G. Watson against Ilis Majesty the King lor £4OO damages to flax from lire was settled out of Court for £2OO. A Scottish woman asserted at the Magistrate’s Court in Wanganui during the hearing of a case that her opponent (another worn-, an) made a “bringe" fit her. It. was subsequently explained that “bringe” was good Scotch for something between uppercut and the rabbit punch. The Wanganui Herald tells this one: A charming young lady entered a Wanganui hotel bar the other afternoon selling a certain religions journal. One hard toiler looks up from his pint. “Iley, miss I will buy one if yon give us a song.” “Plight,” replied the voting lady, and she commenced to sing a verse of a well-known hymn. Barman comes rushing in. "1 say, cut that out!” Toiler looks up from his diminishing pint again and hands a coin to the young lady, and after she had departed smilingly remarked, “Well, she is not a had sport after all.”
