FEBRUARY GRADING RETURNS,

The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper-tow and stripper slips Cor the month of February have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows : Hemp.—The total number of bales graded was 7,277 as compared with 6,117 for the corresponding month last year, an increase of 1,160 bales. For the 12 months ended the.29th February, 1924, the number of bales graded was 62,759 compared with 66,234 for the previous 12 months, a derrease of 3475 bales. Tow. —During the month 1,581 bales were graded as compared with 1,415 for (he same month last year, an increase of 166 bales. For the 12 months ended 29th February, 1924, 15,466 bales were graded agrainst 16,872 bales for the previous 12 months, a decrease of 1,406 bales. Stripper-tow:—During the' month 95 bales were graded as against nil in 1923. Stripper-slips.-—25 bale.- were graded as against 7 in February, 1923, an increase of 18 bales. For tin- 12 months ended 29th February. 1924, 96 bales were graded as ngainst 79 bales for the previous 12 months, an increase of 17 bales. The following is the detailed particulars of the hemp graded:— Good High Low G. The number of bales graded at eaeli port was as follows, the number for tlie corresponding period of last year being given in parentheSupertine 40 (nil), tine nil (57), good fair 1,450 (1,427), high fair 4,359 (3,635); fair 1,110 (733), common 160 (18.1) ; rejected 141 (84), condemned 5 (nil), a total of 7,277 hales. The number of hales graded at each port was: —Auckland 1,641, Foxton 1,119, Wairoa 334, Wellington 2,989; Pic ton 40, Blenheim 68. Port Chalmers 259, Dunedin 91, Invercargill, 196 Bluff 540. The following is the detailed particulars of the tow graded:— G. Ports Ist 2nd 3rd Auckland 34 274 92 Foxton 98 58 Wairoa 30 28 Wellington 208 294 18 l-'icton 27 Blenheim Dunedin Bluff Thirteen bales at Wellington and four at Bluff were condemned. The following shows the number of hales in each grade the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — First grade 408 (452), 2nd grade 1,000 (831), 3rd. grade 156 (102); condemned 17 (30), being a total of 1,581 bales. The number ol' bales graded al each port were: — Auckland 400, Foxtou 156, Wairoa 58, Wellington 533, Picton 27, Blenheim 20, Dunedin 56, Bluff 331. •Stripper-low : —Seventeen bales at Wellington were graded Ist grade and 50 bales a I Foxton, 10 at Wairoa and 13 at Wellington 2nd grade and live bales at Wellington 3rd grade. Stripper Slips.—Twenty-live bales al Auckland were graded 2nd grade.
