Brisbane, March 3

While Nurse Elsie Newlon and Walter William Cray were on llieir way (<» church at Maryborough lasi evening they noticed that they were, followed by a man named Henry Paid, who later addressed Miss Newton, telling her lie desired a few words with her. She fell .and Paid then fired three shots at his own forehead, only causing slight injuries. With, blood streaming from his face, Eahl l.av alongside tlit* girl and said, “1 love yon. 1 have done for myself.” Cray rushed to the girl’s assistance and conveyed her to the hospital Paid meanwhile escaped. The police followed him to a hoarding bouse, where he barricaded himself in a room. The police forced the door and found Paid before the wardrobe culling his throat. He was rushed and knocked down, but died in a Lew minutes. Miss Newlon is expected to re cover, but the sight of her eye is perm a nent I y desf royed. A letter was found in Paid's pocket addresser! “To whom it may concern.'' It gave a motive for his his action and staled that he was perfectly sane, lie was a married man with three children.
