ENTERTAINMENTS.

“THE BURDEN OF PROOF.”

To-night at the Town Hall the popular blonde star Marion Davies will appear in a Selznick feature, “The Burden of Proof.” The story deals with intrigue and plotting among the wives and daughters of prominent Government officials. The activities of the secret service men provide many thrills whilst a romantic theme has been well worked into the story. Among the supporting pictures are “Winning Ways,” a two-reel comedy, Magazine and Selzniek News. Prices as usual, 9d and 1/6, children 3d and 6d. In the “Common Law” the screen version of the famous novel by Robert W,. Chambers which is being screened at the Town Hall on Monday an old problem is presented in a new way —the problem which often occurs in the life of wealthy young men of whether to choose love or fortune. Beautiful Corinne Griffith plays the role of the artist’s model, Conway Tearle is the artist while these two stars are supported by Elliott Dexter, Miss Du Pont, Hobart Bosworth, Bryant Washburn and Phyllis Haver. Prices 1/and 2/-, children half-price. ROYAL PICTURES. Wait till you see “Suds” if you want to see me in character, said Mary Pickford one day. 1 have something up my sleeve for that. In this picture, showing at the Royal Theatre to-night, Miss Pickford appears as the woebegone little slavey in a laundry in the slums of London, who reconciles herself to the dingy life she is leading by imagining pictures of herself as a l’.igh and mighty “lidy.’ “Suds” may well be termed the “Tale of a Shirt” for the scenes are all laid in a little laundry in the slums of London and Miss Pickford weaves much romance about a shirt.

“When the Devil Drives,” the Leah Bail’d production for Associated Artists, shows at the Royal on Monday night. Miss Baird who stars in the leading role, is the author of the story, which was inspired by an actual incident witnessed by her in a Los Angeles Cabaret. Prices 9d and 1/6, children as usual. Look out for Wesley Barry in “Rags to Riches” next week.
