DECEIVING THE PUBLIC.
FACTORY SUITS AS TAILORMADE. PROTEST TO MINISTER, Wellington, Last Night. A deputation from the New Zealand Clothing Trade Federation, including representatives from the four chief centres, waited on the Minister of Customs in the absence of ihe Minister of Labour to-day. The deputation said men’s suits were being sold in stores throughout the country and passed off ns tailor-made, when they were factory made. They contended that the public -was thus being deceived. It was suggested that the purchasers should be supplied with a signed printed form stating whether the clothing was tailor-made or ftictorymnde. Attention was also drawn to (lie alleged increase of making garments in private homes under contract, and under conditions tending to sweating.
The Minister promised to assist in preventing fhe sweating evil, and to consult with the Minister of La - hour in regard to the other points raised by the deputation.
