FATAL ACCIDENT IN A QUARRY

Waitara, Yesterday. The police were informed on Saturday afternoon that a single man, aged about 40 years, named Max Walton, had been killed through a fall of metal in a pit at Okoke. Information now to hand shows that deceased and a mate named Ackland were quarrying for the county council contractors, when about 30 nr 40 tons came down in one mass. Acklaud jumped clear, but Walton was completely buried. Acklaud heard groaning and tried to scratch the earth away, the tools being covered. He later got assistance, and, by the aid of a shovel, Walton was extricated. He was then dead. An inquest will be held at Urenui this afternoon.
