WIRTHS’ CIRCUS.
The interest created by the visit of Wirtli Bros.’ Circus was shown by the large audience which gathered at ihe tent in Easton Park last night. Wirtlis’ Band played enlivening music, and drew the crowd to the menagerie tent, where the splendid troupe of elephants (including llie baby) elicited much pleased comment. The iions, tigers, pumas, wnrthog, wolf, lynx, leopards and monkeys, etc., were all in excellent- condition, sleek and contented. The big circus ring was the scene of many clever turns, the balancing feats by Evans and Perez ( France) being wonderful and daring. On a slender pole balanced on , the shoulder of Evans, Perez climbed to the top of the roof of the tent, and balanced and hung in all sorts of positions. The comedy Spanish “bullfighters’’ proved a clover and amusing farce, the ‘bulls’ being- trained dogs adorned in skins with long pointed horns. The jugglers. Mu' (’armellas, rank amongst the oleveresl, and their turn with bails, rings, knives, sticks and fire r-ticks were novel, clever, and very entertaining. The Flying Lloyds proved themselves finished artists in (he I’ull sense of the word, and their exhibition of triple somersaulting, double twisting and reverse flight into space gave one thrill of apprehension. Prince Guiseppe Biguoli, the smallest rider in the world, being about three feet in height, and aged about 45, caused considerable amusement and was well applauded for his turn. The Hughes Family of trick cyclists provided fun fast and furious for the final item, proving themselves very clever riders. The basketball game on bicycles was an exciting event, and well deserved the reception given. The clowns were not so much in evidence as usual at a circus, but they provided fun and amusement for the children. Wirths’ next visit will be impatiently awaited.
