At a meeting of the Devonport Borough Council, the. Mayor, Mr Lament, commenting on the recent prosecution, said that the position now was that £302 of the borough’s money was missing, and nobody knew anything about it. Mr Wilson had promised In resign the town clerkship, hut had later stated that lie would wait action on the part of the council. The Mayor moved that James Wilson be summarily dismissed from his offices under the council.
The motion was carried, the Mayor stating that the ground on which the town clerk was dismissed was simply negligence. The council declined to accept the resignation of Mr Chambers, the assistant town clerk, and transferred Miss Faul-Bawn from cashier to a clerkship at a reduced salary. The borough solicitor is to be instructed to take action for the recovery of the lost moneys from insurance companies concerned.
