TROUSERS BAG AT KNEES.
LONDON. Jan. 28. ‘‘it is sometimes better for a politician to talk through his hat than to wear a shabby one,"’ says tlie editor of the Tailor and Cutler, writing in the London Evening News. “Probably Lord Robert Cecil’s clothes did more harm at the League of Nations than his eloquence did good. “Mr. Baldwin’s fate was sealed when he wore a lounge suit and a shabby hat at the Eton-Harrow cricket match. “The Labour Ministers must learn the importance of clothes, which will unconsciously mould their characters as well as their figures. No revolutionary measures are likely to conn; from men wearing silk hats and correct morning dress. “Mr. Ramsay Macdonald is a distinct sartorial improvement on Mr. Baldwin. He has the sense of clothes and eongmity. He rightly wears Harris tweed at Lossiemouth but dons a silk hat and frock coat when seeing the King. His coat sleeves are rather wide, but possibly lie has a lot up them. “Mr. -T. H. Thomas is the only "Minister who wears a white slip in his waistcoat, which is a sign of grace. He uses his pockets, however, as panniers, stuffing heavy gloves into them, which detracts from the smartness of his appearance. “Mr. Sydney Webb may be beyond reproach as regards statistics but lie is not so with his clothes There is a legend that be owns a silk bat and frock coat, and lie should produce them. The collar of bis overcoat is sland-ollish at tin; back, suggesting a horse collar. There is a marked provincialism about the dress of most of the Ministers. Their coal collars and sleeves are 100 roomy. and their trousers hag at the knees.
