A local member of the iiaiiway Officers’ institute stated this morning that the Minister’s announcement about retaining Mr Mitchell’s services would be received with dissatisfaction in the service. It was regrettable that the Minister should depai’t from the general policy by retaining a traffic manager when many young officers were capable of iiiiing tffie position with credit, hiow tjiey had the Minister prepared to enforce the principal of retirement after forty years’ service, the Institute considered he should plough a straight furrow, unless an officer is without doubt essential.
