In referring to the waterworks report, the Mayor said they had got over the driest month for pumping, and the wells gave a plentiful supply. Seventy thousand gallons had been pumped in a little over five hours. He did not think they would be called upon for a. more severe test as to supply. In reply to Cr. Coley, Cr. Alex. Ross said that the smell of tar in the water was from the pipes, and this, the engineer had assured him, could he minimised by opening the dead ends occasionally. Other Councillors spoke of the comparative purity of the water, and the Mayor assured Cr. Coley that it was practically impossible to draw in river water when pumping from the wells. At Cr. Thompson’s request it was decided to enquire into replacing of tap in the Avenue, the previous one having been interfer<■<l with. REST ROOM. 'ftie Town Hall Committfee reported upon furnishings for ladies’ rest-room in the Town Hall, including linoleum, chairs, settee, table and piano. Cr. Coley: Is the piano to be English or German”? Further details in connection with the furnishings were left with the Mayor, who is to report at next meeting. GAS METER READING. Cr. Adams produced two complaints in writing from two gas consumers, re alleged over-regis-tration of gas. It was decided to grant the permanent stoker six weeks leave of absence on account of illness, and that the Gas Manager call applications to fill the temporary position if necessary. DRAIN -LA YIN G OBJECTION. Air A. R. Osborne wrote, objecting to a drain connection being made to the sewer through his property, as provision for same was made outside his property. The. plan was scrutinised, and after a good deal of discussion it was moved by the Mayor, seconderl by Cr. Ross, that the plan prepared by the engineer be adhered to, and that Air Osborne’s objection be dismissed. The motion was carried, Crs. Coley and Adams strongly objecting to same.
