JAPANESE SQUADRON.
ARRIVES AT WELLINGTON
Wellington, Last Night
The Japanese Naval training squadron, consisting of the Assama, 9,897 tons, the flagship Iwate, 9,786 tons; and the Yakumo, 9,645 tons, arrived at Wellington this afternoon in beautiful weather. The squadron is in command of ViceAdmiral Shichiqoio Saito, C.B. Its welcome was a cordial one, huge crowds lining the waterfront. The flagship fired a salute of 21 guns as she steamed past Somes Island, Fort Dorset returning the compliment. The officers of the Chatham waited on the Vice-Admiral and when Admiral Saito landed another salute was fired. The Commander called on the Prime Minister, and Air Massey and the Ministers, returned the visit.
