MANAWATU-OROUA RIVER BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The lirst meeting of the newly-el-ected Manawatu-Oroua River Board was held oil Thursday. Trustee R. T. Bell was elected chairman for the ensuing year. Also present were trustees H. Akers, N. P. Neilsen, A. Seifert, K. AlcDouald. AT. F. Anderson and B. G. Gower. ENGINEER’S REPORT.

la reporting on the works carried out during the month, the engineer to the Board, stated that surveys had been made for two additional possible routes of overflow channel from Walden’s corner through Afoutoa, and all the field work liav ing been completed comparative estimates of cost of each route were now- in hand, and results should be available in a few days’ time. Messrs Ward and Salmon had completed field work up to and beyond Poplar, and were now camped at Rangiotu. The plans and office work, including scheduling of levels were behindhand, hut the engineer had sufficient, to carry on with preliminary estimates for the lower section of the river. During the month the engince • visited Christchurch. and conferred with members of tile Wninmknriri River Trust and their classifiers on certain difficulties that Imd been met with in classification. After careful consideration, certain methods assisted by wider legislative powers, were, decided upon as the best, means to get equitable rating. The engineer also visited Napier and met members of the Hawke's Bay River Board, and of the Napier Harbour Board to discuss features of proposed diversion of a river and of proposed reclamation scheme connected with it. After inspection of the country, the engineer decided upon certain surveys and borings to be made, and now awaited the plans and data before proceeding further. —Adopted. GENERAL.
