ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
OVER THE GORGE ROAD,
A motor lorry owned by Mr J. Tinnier, of Ruawhata, and driven by one of his sons, shot over the Manawatn Gorge on Friday and was badly wrecked. The driver had a miraculous escape his injuries requiring only sticking plaster. The lorry was hauled up on Saturday. \coidciits are becoming rarer in the Gorge, thanks to the splendid work of the Control Board. Christchurch, January 13. Lewis Bradford Giles, aged 53. ,n engineer, was found dead in the stokehold of the Kaiapoi Woollen Company’s hosiery factory at 4.19 this morning. He had been, re-called to the engine-room in an emergency to draw tlio fires, as flie boilers were unexpectedly blowing off. On his failure to return, his wife sent ilmir daughter across and she found the body on (he floor with one hand holding the wire of a port able electric lamp. An inquest was opened and adjourned. An autopsy will he held.
