STREET CORNER ALTERCATION.

MAN DIES OF INJURIES. Auckland, January 13. A seafarer named James White, died last evening, as the result of an injury to his head. It is alleged that White was standing near the corner of Wellesley and Queen Streets, when another man engaged him in conversation. An altercation arose and it is alleged White was struck down beiug rendered unconscious, through his head coming in contact with the pavement. He succumbed before reaching the Central police station. A man named James Lee, a labourer, of Mount Eden, was arrested on a charge of manslaughter. So far as is known the deceased had no relatives in the Dominion.
