FOXTON RACING CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING. SATISFACTORY ACCEPTANCES. The acceptances for the first day of the Fox ton Racing Club’s annual meeting (which is to be held on the 22nd. and 23rd. inst.), are considered satisfactory, and are set out below. Compared with last year’s first day acceptances, the total for the • programme shows an actual decline of eleven in point of numbers, the most noticeable of which is the Cup, fourteen horses accepting last year as against eight for this, meeting. As against this, however, the Maiden Race shows an accretion of three horses this year. Given fine weather, it is confidently anticipated that the coming meeting will be as great a success as any during past years, and may possibly eclipse previous as the Foxton outing is becoming progressively more popular among racegoers as the years go by. This year a slight alteration in the personnel of the officials has been made, Air A. N. Smith having been elected to the position of steward, vide Mr A. E. Green, who retired prior to leaving the district; Mr R. Bryant has taken Mr Green’s position on the judicial committee] Mr N. Winiata has been appointed clerk of scales, a position held for some years by Mr J. V. Burr, and the position of secretary has been assumed by Air D. R. Ogilvy. Train arrangements to suit visitors from the northern districts have been granted by the Department, which should, as in former years, induce a large number of followers of the sport of kings to be present. This year the publican’s booths, both inside and outside, will be conducted by Airs Baker, of the Clarendon Hotel, Palmerston North, and the luncheon and refreshment rooms will be under the able control of Air AL E. Perreau. We are pleased to note that the Foxton Silver Baud, under the conducforship of Air John Golder, has been engaged to dispense a programme of music both days, and this will afford the public an opl>ort, unity of gaining an adequate idea of our local Band’s accomplishments. The Stewards have recently improved the appointments at the course by' the installation of the borough water supply, and the addition of further conveniences yi the ladies’ room at the rear of the grandstand. Following their progressive policy, the Club has had erected a commodious and convenient building- in Main St., containing- the Secretary’s office and a large room, suitable for a meeting ball. This building is of excellent appearance, both externally and in interior finish, and will make for the convenience alike of the Club’s officers and clients.
