NEWS AND NOTES
Many people will ind agree that gulls are like shags, in that they will kill and devour trout says the Wanganui Herald. That this is a fact, is proved by a recent incident that happened whilst two anglers were fishing in the Tuki Tuki River. They saw a gull pick a trout out of the water, fly inland with it and drop it twieo on the >-d<>no* until tho lish was dead.
The need for closer association between New Zealand and the Commonwealth was emphasised by the Hon. C. J. Parr when speaking of a proposal to exchange teachers: “We must cultivate Australia,” lie said, “our near neighbour and our close relation. We stand or fall together, outposts of British civilisation and democracy in the Pacific. The school teacher can do much to create a true knowledge in the minds of the young of the two countries, and can help to remove ignorance and misunderstanding which, T fear, nowadays sometimes creep in.”
