FIRES
OUTBREAK IN GARAGE. Mast.ert.on, Last Night. The prompt action of the fire brigade .saved the eerl-uLu loss of the contents of Messrs Wilton and Co.’s central garage, where a fire occurred to-night. The proprietor and a client were draining the contents of a lank of a car valued at £4OO when the gasoline hurst into flames and quickly spread to a car nearby, valued ai 0(100 and heavily laden work bench, and resembled a blazing furnace when the brigade arrived. Neither of the cars destroyed were insured but the garage and contents are well covered. WOOL STORE ABLAZE. Christchurch, Last Night. A serious fire occurred at the wool store tanneries at 5 o’clock tonight, as the employees were leaving the works. Tt broke out in the centre of the buildings, in the suede shop, and the flames, fanned by a strong wind, soon obtained a good hold. The lire brigade, however, ooniined the outbreak to the suede department, engine house and store, which is only a small portion of the total works. The damage is estimated at £33,500. The insurances on the whole works total £105,375.
