CROQUET
The last section of the croquet tournament of the Manawatu Association was concluded at the Maria wain Club’s grounds yesterday, when Rhodes-Williams, with one rubber to his credit, met Mrs Bull in the last two rubber’s of the game. The second rubber went t<v the latter player, 26 —14, after a wellfought contest. The final encounter was most exciting. Mrs Bull played a plucky and brilliant game, and although the victory went- to her opponent, 26—19, she well deserved the cheers that were given for her at the end.
Entries for the Dominion tournament to he held in Palmerston N. Do's month, close to-day. They have l-eeu coming in freely from Nelson, Taranaki, Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, and other districts, and many prominent New Zealand players will be taking part, including Mrs Watkins, the North Island champion, and H. P. Stratton, the Dominion champion, while there are many others of note. A comparison could not- be made yesterday with previous years, but this year’s tournament shows every indication of eclipsing previous meetings.—Times.
