FIRE IN A NEWSPAPER OFFICE.

Invercargill, January 2. A serious fire occurred in the “Southland News” Office at 6.30 this morning, resulting in the total destruction of five linotype machines, and bad damage to three others. Owing to its fireproof construction, the (lames.were confined to the lino-" type room, the roof of which was destroyed. The fires, was caused by fusing of rubber tubing supplying gas tor heating thfe metal. The damage, approximately:^,ooo, is cover ed m the South British Office.
