SWIMMING NOTES
The boat race last evening created considerable interest locally, a largo number of spectators lining the wharf fo witness the finish. There were only four starters, Toro, H. McGregor, Kelly and Harrison. Messrs E. Ball and D. Christie acted as starters and umpires and followed the race in Mr Joseph’s launch. The race commenced at the big sand hill at the rear of the pah, upstream, and finished at the wharf steps, the rowers having the advantage of the run out. All competitors kept close to the opposite side of the river and McGregor took the lead early in the race and maintained his position throughout with Harrison not far behind. Toro did not finish, pulling out at the bend opposite the mills. Mr J. Barr acted as judge. The dub wishes to heartily thank Mr J. Joseph, who so kindly placed his launch at the disposal of the club.
Now that you have seen the boat race, don’t forget to see the swimming sports to-morrow afternoon. They will he far more interesting. Parents! roll up and see your boy swim. Don’t forget, to-morrow at 2 o’clock at the wharf.
