A MOTHER’S PROTEST.

(To The Editor). Sir,- —I am not a well-to-do ratepayer, neither can I afford a motor car, or other luxuries, but I would willingly pay even one pound a year extra in rates to have a swimming baths so that my children could bathe in safety. The worry the river causes me —and the children will go there —takes more out of me than a small increase in rates. 1 am deeply disappointed with the action of the Mayor and Councillors and should any accident happen at the river—which God forbid —it will be too late to make excuses. As for a library, would it not be better-, sir, for our boys to put in their spare time reading decent books and magazines hi a comfortable room of an evening instead of so much street loitering and possibly getting into mischief. I cannot understand such selfishness on the part of those who would not miss the little extra iu rates for such benefits. Is it any wonder, sir, that our pleasant little town is made a mockery of. To those who have opposed the swimming baths and library I say “Shame on you.” Yours regretfully A MOTHER.
