SWIMMING SPORTS

TO-AfORROW AFTERNOON

The Fox lon Swimming Club will hold their first swimming carnival at the wharf to-morrow afternoon and should the weather prove fine there should he a large attendance of the public. Good acceptances have been received for the various events and some exciting finishes should result. Mr J. Linklater, ALP. will open the proceedings. The club is to be congratulated on its enterprise and efforts to encourage the art of swimming and life-saving. To carry out sports in the river is a very difficult task and entirely different from what would obtain in the placid waters of a swimmingbaths, as every competitor must be a first-class swimmer to compete in such conditions. At the conclusion of the sports the Afayor (Air ,J. Chrystall) will present the prizes. The local Silver Band will be in attendance. There is no charge for admittance, but a collection will he taken up in aid of the club’s funds. A meeting of all those able to lake to-morrow morning off to as--is| in making arrangements for the sports is called for fi o’clock sharp this evening. Members are requested to wear their badges to-morrow. The secre-' (ary still has a good supply of badges and those who have not yet got their badge should do so at once.
