The Band of Hope will meet in the Salvation Army TTall on Monday at 7.30 p.m. Supper provided. The united evangelistic mission service will he held, in the Town Hall on Sunday evening at 8 o’clock. The address will he given by the Rev. F. McDonald.
Mr William J. Bvrne, personal representative for Mr Edward Bransconihe, was in Foxlon this morning making arrangements for the appearance at Foxlon of the Westminister dee Singers. At yesterday's S.M. Court the Magistrate, in speaking on breaches of the licensing Act, said that as far as he could see the whole trouble in Foxton was that there were too many hotels for the population. Speaking at the Chamber of Commerce meeting on Thursday evening, Mr Christie said that the difference between Foxton and other towns was that Foxton was always talking about things they should get while other towns got what they wanted.
The usual united meeting for intercession was held on Tuesday night in the Anglican Church. The Rev. W. IL Walton conducted the service and a suitable address was given by the Rev. .J. Boothroyd from Ephesians IT. 10. The next meeting is to be in the Presbyterian Church, to be addressed by Airs Ensign Huston. On Friday of next week a concert will be held at Foxton Beach, the proceeds of which arc to he devoted to the school prize fund. For some weeks past the mistress, Miss Baton, has been preparing the pupils for this entertainment, and we are informed that the programme to he submitted is very good. At the conclusion of the concert, a dance will be held.
“Would you support a public library if it cost nothing?” asked Mr Christie of the Mayor at Friday night’s meeting. “Yes, certainly.” said the Mayor. “Well,” said Air Christie, “if you hand over the fines from the motor drivers prosecuted for exceeding the speed limit, there would he sufficient to meet all charges in connection with the lib vary.” (Laughter).
One of the most interesting operation on the Alangahao works is the concrete elevator at (he Power house at Mangore. The building is 75 feet in height. Li the centre there rises a stout mast 93 ft. high and on the mast there runs a capacious bucket worked by a wire rope and donkey engine. The concrete mixer is stationed on the hillside outside the building and the mixture runs down a chute to the hopper at the foot of |he mast. The bucket when full is elevated to the top of the mast where it automatically tips into anolier chute, which delivers the concrete to any part of the building, where it is repaired. Tls operation is an object lesson to visitors in modern concrete construction.
