ENTERTAINMENTS
An entrancing story of the Hawaiian Islands is the “White Flower,” a Paramount picture which will he given its only Foxton screening at the Town Hall Cabaret tomorrow evening. Miss Compson plays the part of a young half-Eng-lish, half-Hawaiian girl, who is in love with a young American, the pineapple king of the Islands. Many are the plans which Miss Compson forms for winning this young fellow’s love. In fact, she almost does away with his fiancee, by the aid of mysterious rites, so great, is her love for him. She realises however, what she is about, to do, and at the critical moment her real womanhood asserts itself. Some of the many noteworthy scenes in the pictnre are surf-hoard riding on the Waikiki beach and the volcano Kilauea. A two-reel comedy “Derby Day,” is the chief supporting picture. Usual Cabaret, prices. The popular. little actress Shirley Mason, will appear on Saturday next whilst (he timely modern feature “Jazz Mania,” is promised for next week.
ROYAL PICTURES. There are few theatre-goers who will fail to recall the beautiful girl who shared honours with House Peters and Matt Moore.in “The Storm” a few months ago, that swept the country and was accorded unstinted praise by critics everywhere. The girl was Virginia Valli and as a result of her exceptionally fine work in that production, Carl Laemmle, president of the Universal Pictures Corporation, decided that she was worthy of stardom. She lV* s . been signed on a five-year contract by Universal and makes her how in stellar fashion with “The... Shook,” the production to he screened at the Royal Theatre to-morrow night. In “The Shock” Miss.. Valli shares honours with Lon Chaney, but hereafter she will be starred alone. This picture depicts the great San Francisco earthquake and is considered one of the most remarkable pictures of this decade. Comedy: The Imperfect Lover.”
