WOOL SALES
The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dated the 15th instant., from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Wool:—Stales closed yesterday. Competition ruled brisk throughout and of total offerings of 189,000 bales, 159,000 were sold; Home trade taking 94,000; Continental, 64,000; and American 1,000. Merino selection was small with demand well maintained and closed par to five per cent, above last sales. Rates for crossbred hardened and closed at best fine five per cent., medium and coarse ten peg cent, to fifteen per cent higher than September rates. Average closing rates: 60/04’s (Merino) 1/10—2/4; 56’s . (SuperIfalfbred) 1/11—2/3; 48’s (Fine Crossbred) 1/2 —1/4; 44,/46’s (Medium Crossbred) lid —l/1; 36/40's (Coarse do.) lOd —1/-. Slipe in large supply active demand closing at. ten per cent, dearer for best and five pci- cent, dearer for coarse and faulty lines. Next, sales commence 3rd December with break for election period.
