UNITED MISSION
CONCLUDES IN TOWN HALL TO-MORROW NIGHT. The united evangelical mission conducted by Mr Mains will be concluded in the Town Hall to-morrow (Sunday) at S p.m. It is anticipated that the attendance may compel the opening of the galleries, as the seating accommodation down stairs last Sunday night was taxed to its utmost. There was an increased attendance at last night’s meeting and the missioner spoke on the rich young man’s query to Jesus; “What shall I do to obtain eternal life?” The subject and its application were eloquently and appealingly dealt with. Statesmen, journalists of high standing, as well as ministers of religion are all agreed that the one great need of our national life today is a revival of religion. There is no dynamic in materialistic thought. The one thing that can vitalise our laws and make effective our desires for peace and progress is roligous passion. Unless this comes to us there is no future for us —but ruin. The world is tilled with unrest. Darker clouds hang over us than those which in 1913-14 presaged the breaking of the greatest storm that has ever convulsed human history. Everywhere the ideals of international peace and brotherhood are being threatened and thwarted by the gross materialism of our lives. Only in a real repentance and turning again to God is there any hope. Hence the necessity for a spiritual awakening.
