ROAD FOREMAX’S REPORT. The road foreman reported ai Monday night's Borough Council meeting that (lie road staff had been engaged on the following works during the past month. — Mixing asphalt and screening sand in Council yard, patching footpaths Main and Clyde Sts., grading and carting spoil from Johnston SI. During the month 800.000 e. ft. of gas was used by consumers, 20,800 e.ft. in street lamps, 28,000 e.ft. at the works and there was 18,400 ft. in the bolder on October Ist, making a total of 457.000 ft. and leaving 34,700 ft., representing' 7.1 per cent., unaccounted for. Fortythree tons of coal was carbonised during the month, yielding 11,139 e.ft. to the ton. The earnings for the month totalled £317 18/7 and was made up as follows: —Gas sales (lighting) £122 15/7, heat and power £IOO 1/7, coke sales £45 8/0, far sales £55 4/-, fittings £0 3/-, services £3 8/0, labour services £3 5/-, do., fittings 0/0, miscellaneous £2 2/8, being a total of £347 18/7. The expenditure for the month totalled .€2I.S 18/0 mid was made up as follows: —Coal £llO 18/1.0, Ralaries and wages £SO 10/2, services £3 0/1 ( fittings £5 18/5, engine oil (pf.) 13/-, repairing weighbridge £3 17/11, cartage and freight 10/0, drain at house £0 18/-, telephone sub. £4 3/0, rates and sanitation fee 17/-, working expenses 4/2, sundries 14/-, interest and sinking fund £SO 11/8, being a total of £248 18/0. The gas manager reported, inter alia, that the apparatus was in satisfactory working order and in good state of repair. During the month be had to take the lamp at Jenks St: downyiwing to the telephone pole being taken out, but bad re-erected same on a standard. Both reports were adopted.
