CONCERT.

BY LEVIN COMBINED CHOIR

On Wednesday evening the Levin combined choir gave an excellent, sacred concert.in the local Methodist Church. There was a good and aj)f>reeiative audience and the concert was heartily enjoyed. The Rev*. J. Boofhroyd occupied felie chair and gave a few of his experiences at Mr Hickson’s Healing Mission at Palmerston North, and expressed his appreciation of Mr Hickson’s methods and work and of the quiet and orderly way in which everything had been carried on. The chairman also referred to the kindness of Mr Howard Andrew and his choir in coming from Levin to entertain and help them. 'l'he following is the programme ;

Anthem: “The Radiant Morn.” Choir; pianoforte solo: “Beethoven’s Sonata,” Miss Thelma Shaw; monologue: “Napoleon’s Dream,” Mi Howard Andrew (encore); anthem: “What are These?” Choir; quartette: “Hush thee, My- Baby,” quartette party; soprano solo: “Beyond the Dawn,” Mrs .T. F. Gibson; duet: “ThF Rosary.” Mesdames Ivilsby and Sautell; solo (by request) “Vale,” Mr Howard Hunter (encore); pianoforte selection: “Chopin’s Nocturne,” Miss Thelma Shaw (encore); vocal solo: “They Say,” ■Mrs W. E. Tvilsbv; anthem: “Sun of My Soul,’’-choir; quartette "(unaccompanied) : “Silent Night,” quartette party; monologue: “His First Long Trousers,” Mr Howard Andrew (encore); anthem “Halleluiah, Christ is Risen,”, choir. Mss Thelma Shaw was organist and Miss Armstrong, accompanist; quartette party: Misses Perry and Earle and Messrs Plazfer and Taylor, and Mr Howard Andrew wielded the baton. The singers were in good voice, the solos, duet, and quartettes were sung with sweetness and effect, and the anthems were sung in such a way a.s to reveal the excellence of the voices of the choir and the Ijard practice that had been gone through, and Mr Andrew showed that he was able to make excellent use of his efficient choir. The concert was given with “vim” and as the chairman said was enjoyable from start to finish and it is to be hoped that the choir will not he long before they will be able to pay another visit.’ A hearty vote -of thanks and appreciation was moved by Mr J. Banks (circuit stewprt) and carried with acclamation and .the, choir was afterwards entertained in the schoolroom h.v the church choir and t' e ladies’ g.uild and showed their appreciation by giving three hearty < beers before leaving on their return jhurney.
