ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

The main attraction in. Foxton on Labour Day was a soccer match between. Wellington South (winners of (he Victory Cup) and Foxton, on Easton Park. The game was witnessed by a large number of spectators. The Wellington captain won the toss and took advantage of the wind and sun. Captain Jenvey, of the local team, set the ball in motion and made for the Wellington goal, hut found the visitors’ defence very safe, they transferring the ball to (he Foxton half. After a spell of mid-field play, the visitors’ forced the pace but found the local boys alert. Another spell of mid-field play ensued until the visitors put on the pace and netted the-first goal. On play resuming, Jenvey passed to Francis, he passing to Crowe, to Jenvey, who after beating his ,oponent, had a shot at goal with effect. Mid-field play then followed until half-time, . without further score. On resuming play, Foxton after a nice display of foot work, worked the ball to the visitors’ goal and Jenvey ended up with beating the visitors goalie with ease. Play of a give-and-take nature, with spectacular individual efforts was witnessed ere the whistle blew for—full time, the. score being 2 —l in favour of the* visitors.' The game was capably managed by the Scotch International referee, Mr D. W. Robertson.

In the evening, a dance was held in the Masonic Hall and the visitors were present together with a large number of local people and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The catering was in the’ hands of the ladies and was all that could be desired and thanks are accorded them, also to Messrs East, Carter and Mrs Pearson and Miss Morgan, who were responsible for the music; Messrs Madden and Hinds carried out the duties of M.’sC. to the satisfaction of all.
