THE MANGAHAO SCHEME
READY IN JUNE NEXT, PRICE FOR POWER BOARDS. AMOUNT DEFINITELY FIXED. Various matters of interest in connection with the Manga ban hy-dro-elect rical power scheme were referred to recently by the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. J. G. Coates) in an interview with Chronicle reporter in Wanganui. “Has I lie price to the power hoards been definitely fixed?” was the lirst query. “Yes, it lias been definitely fixed,” replied the .Minister, “£lO for the first 200 k.w., thence reducing to £3 per k.w. for over that amount, and up to 4,:)00 k.w.” -When will the Mangahao schemata* completed?” was the following 11 aery.
“It will be finished by June next,” replied the Minister. “1 am stating that on flic advice of my engineers. Of course, that means if its iiumanlv possible, and provided no iinforseen troubles such ns slips and Hoods occur. But there is every reason to believe that Manga - l.ao will he completed by the date 1 have said."
“That brings up another point,” added the Minister. “We want all the power boards to have their reticulation schemes ready so they can link up with Mangahao as soon as the power is ready.” The Minister added that the essence of the scheme from his Department’s point of view was to be able to dispose of the whole 24,000 h.p. generated, and they had arranged with the various power hoards to have that amount used. In conclusion, the Minister stated that Mangahao was the key feeding station, and it was essential, in order to link with the other North Island power schemes—Waikaremoana and Aranui.
