FOXTON SWIMMING CLUB.

Foxton nt last possesses a Swimming Club and although the facilities obtaining are not very encouraging, a great deal of interest is being evinced in Ibis new body. Patrons of the “old swinnniiT bole” this year decided that, with a little ho!p, a few improvements could be easily carried out at the river, such ns erecting spring boards, shute, and procuring a water ball, etc., which would go a long way to providing l etter amusement for'those who patronise the river. To bring these ideas into realisation, Air J. Perreau, a fortnight ago, convened a meeting of those interested in the formation of a swimming club. The meeting was attended by some 25 local swimmers and it was decided to form what is now known as the Foxton Swimming Club. The election of officers resulted as follows: President: Mr R. Hornhlow; vicepresidents: Messrs A. Walls, K. TTirini and F. Lockwood; secretary: Mr D. Ball: treasurer: Mr J. Perrean; commit lee: Afessrs G. and J. Perreau, T. Puller, A. Walls, K. TTirini and the secretary and president ex-officio members. It was de- , id(>d that the membership fee be 1/and to date there are some 35 members enrolled. A spring board and matting lias been purchased and dub badges procured, while club rules have been drawn up by the committee and sanctioned by a general meeting held this week. Unfortunately, owing to the river being pone In safe for non-swimmers, (be club lias bad to refuse membership to those unversed in the aquatic art, but with the advent of the swimming baths in the near future the latter will be well catered for. With the sanction of the Harbour Board, the club intends to cam- out. certain improvements on the river hank for Ihe convenience of bathers. Unfortunately the “fresh”-in the M»nawatu has hindered operations somewhat hut il is hoped to make a shirt very shortly. Foxton possesses some very fine swimmers and it is Ihe aim of the club to train a team to compete in outside carnivals and to foster swimming gener-

ally. The club is indebted to the following for donations:—Mesdames ITuntiev, Perreau, Misses N. Robinson, W. Walls, and D. Skellen, and Messrs F. Wnlbutton, J. K. Hornblow, R. Hornhlow, 1). Ball, G. Perreau, and F. Lockwood. A general meeting of the above Club will he held in Perreau’s Rooms on Monday evening at 8 o’clock.
