JAPANESE DISASTER.
HELP FROM NEW ZEALAND. Wellington, October 12. Sir Francis Bell announces that the Government is contributing £25000 for' flic relief of the sufferers from the Japanese earthquakes. The money is now on its way. Sir Francis Bell announces that the £25,000 now in course of transmission to the. British Ambassador in Japan, will he handed to the Japanese Government as the New Zealand Government’s contribution to Hie relief of su fife its from the recent disaster. Tie explains that from the first the matter had anxious and continuous consideration by the Government, which throughout desired to comply with the wish of the people of the Dominion, that some praetieal proof should he given of our sympathy with the Japanese nation and in grateful memory.of its alliance in the Great War. Tie says that the Government, in answer to an inquiry, had been informed that supplies of timber and clothing were the most urgent necessities. The Government endeavoured to obtain freight and if tlml difficulty could have been met, it would have proceeded to purchase large quantities of timber and blankets in New Zealand. However, il was found impossible lo arrange for the shipment in considerable quantities, The British Ambassador was informed of the position, and the Government ascertained that the equivalent in money would be accepted.
