TENNIS CLUB BALL.

The Town Hall last night presented a picturesque spectacle, t lie occasion being the annual ball of the local tennis club. On entering the hall one was struck with the unique design of' the decorations, which were made to represent huge o.obv. ebs with quaint looking spiders and moths placed among the greenery, to add reality to the scene. The work was a credit to all who carried out the novel design. The music which was suplied by Larkins’ Elite Orchestra, struck up in good time and the hall presented a scene of animated gaiety. Visitors were present from Palmerston, Levin, Shannon, Glen Oroua and surrounding district- and about one hundred and fifty i-ouples occupied the floor. The varied lines of the ladies’ dres- - added a very pretty touch to everything and one could see at a ola in-e ilia I everybody was out to i njov themselves. The president cl the c.liil). Mr Simmons, lead the grand march with Miss Beard. The duties of M.'sC. were capably carried out by Messrs IV. E. Barber and S. Bryant, The supper-room je.ns decorated with blue and white streamers with howls of arum lilies and polyanthus on the tables. The -upper itself left nothing to be de- - A. d and a special word of praise is due to the ladies who so kindly assisted the ladies’ committee in this connection. All hough the night was rather v.arm for dancing, the general opinion wa.- that the hall was one of the most enjoyable functions this season. Dancing was continued iMit.il an early hour this morning. The committee and especially the ladies, are to be complimented upon the success of the function.
