FOXTON FIRE BOARD.

QUARTERLY MEETING.

The quarterly meeting of the above was held in the secretary’s office on Thursday afternoon. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman) P. C. Cray, Bryant, Smith, Geo. Coley and the secretary (Roorc Rangiheuen). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Rowe and Irving. Mr Coley, who was appointed by Ihe Borough Council to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of the Mayor (Mr J. Chrystall) was welcomed by the Chairman, who stated that Mr Coley was the largest ratepayer in Foxton, and had taken a keen interest in local body affairs and he was sure Mr Coley would make an excellent and progressive member of the Board. In returning thanks Mr Coley said that lie would do his best in the interests of the Board. In his connection with local body affairs he had always endeavoured to act 1 fairly. He would at all times speak his mind and if his opinion did not coincide with others he would always loyally support the majority, correspondence' was read and dealt: with as follows: From the Foxton Chamber of Commerce conveying the Chamber’s appreciation of the work accomplished by the Board. —The secretary was instructed to thank the Chamber for its appreciative references. From the Minister of Internal Affairs confirming appointment of Mr G. C. Coley to the vacancy on the Board. —Received. From Mr Bews, ex-member of the Board acknowledging the Board’s appreciation of his past services.— Received. From the Foxton Borough Council re gift of metal for asphalting approach to station.—Council to be thanked for same. From same declining to connect the borough water engineer’s residence with telephone. —Received. From same, intimating that fire plug indicators had been erected as suggested.—Received. FroirULevin Fire Board acknowledging payment for hose. —Receive ed. From A. and T. Burt, forwarding blue print of fire bell structure and automatic fire alarm apparatus. — Held over. From the Fire Brigade re account for notice cards. —Decided to pay same. From Yorkshire Insurance Coy. re insurance on station, engine, and .comprehensive policy. —Referred to Wellington members to investigate and if in order to pay same. .From Mr IT. Hamer, asking that his house be connected with the fire station telephone on party line, conneetion to be at his expense. —The chairman pointed out that it would be an advantage to the Brigade to accede to the request in case of an outbreak of fire. —Permission.granted provided Department is prepared to carry out same. The resignations of the Superintendent (Mr MeDermid) and deputy superintendent (Mr Nattrass) were received. —The Chairman said the Superintendent’s resignation was owing to his leaving the district. He had asked Mr Pearson to fill the vacancy until the Board made an appointment. —Action endorsed. Re sale of chemical engine.—lt was.decided to place the engine for sale with Inspector Hugo, per Mi' Cray. Mr Coley said that perhaps it would be as well to retain the chemical engine for use in cases of fire outside the water area. It was pointed out that two chemical extmgnishers of large capacity had . been obtained for this purpose and ' for incipient fires. The following honorary members to the local fire brigade were ap- - proved by the Fire Board: —Messrs A. N. Smith, Geo. Rough, S. E. Cowley, A. Heasman C. Coley; active members: —Messrs M. Cook, F. O’Reilly, J. Perreau and K. Hirini.
