UNREST AT MANGAHAO.
COMPLAINTS ABOUT FOOD. A mass meeting of the men stationed at Mangorie was held during the week-end, when several matters affecting the welfare of the me.n were discussed. It was revealed at Ihe meeting that serious discontent exists respecting Hie conditions of employment, especially with regard to the class of foo I supplied at (he cook-house, conducted by the Department, it being clearly shown that the men ai-e asked to pay far too high a price for the quality of the food supplied. The conditions obtaining at tbe cook-house were considered so unsatisfactory that the men last weekdecided to petition tbe Minister for Public Works to immediately remedy the existing conditions, failing which many of the men have signified their intention of leaving the works. - After full discussion, it was unanimously decided that the most effective means of having these conditions improved was to form themselves into a branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. The following, officers were appointed : President: Mr R. V. MeGlone; vice-president, Mr Geo. Connor: secretary and treasurer, Mr J. AT. At. Jenkins; executive, Messrs A. E. Woods, C. W. Duckworth and T. 11. Quarlerman.
