UNITED MEETING OF FOXTON CHURCHES.

There was a large gathering at the annual meeting of the Home and Maori Missions whic held in conjunction with the United meeting for intercession in the Salvation Army Hall on Tuesday evening. The Rev. J. Boothroyd presided and Ensign Huston opened with prayer. After reading as lesson, Romans ch. X, Mr Boothroyd gave an interesting account of his recent experiences in Home Mission work in Murchison, Nelson. He also apologised foUtlie absence of Rev. N. H. Papakura, who was unable to be present owing to the serious illness of his mother, and introduced the Rev. W. Tetuki as his substitute. The Rev. gentleman gave a very nice rendering of the solo “Nearer My God to Thee” and then addressed the meeting on the Methodist Home and Maori Missions and made special references to the work in his district, the Kaipara. He spoke of our indebtedness to the pioneer missionaries of New Zealand, Bishop Marsden, the Rev. Samuel Leigh, and others and to later workers a- < mongst the Maoris, Revs. Gottos, Hammond and the present superintendent, the Rev. A. J. Seamer. Rev. Tetuhi also made some: interesting references to native manners and customs, and explained their greetings, and commended both the Home and Maori work to his hearers; the address being listened to with great attention. After a collection had been taken up on behalf of the Missions, the Revs. Boothroyd, MacDonald, and Walton engaged in prayer and the meeting was concluded with the Benediction. The hymns were chosen from the “Hymns for the Church Army,” kindly lent bv the Rev. W. Walton and were very suitable for the gathering and sung very heartily, Mr Thoraber presiding at the organ. The meeting was thoroughly enjoyable and was a striking testimony to the unity of the ministers and members of the Foxton churches. f The Rev. Tetuhi addressed a meeting at Shannon last evening.
