BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night, ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman reported as follows on the work of the road staff during the past month: — , During the month of August we have been engaged in the following works: Putting in pipe culvert in Spring St., carting tar from wharf ex s.s. Kennedy, grading path in Cook St. and carting and spreading cinders; weeding paths and water channels in Main, Clyde and Liddel Sts., spreading metal in Purcell St. and on Moutoa Rd., removing old iron fence fronting new municpal building and erecting fence and gate belonging to old building; erecting speed limit notice boards, kerbing footpath in Johnston St., mowing triangle and general maintenance work. Mr Win. Walker has completed the contract for carting 50 yards of metal from the local pit. This has been used for patching on Purcell St. and Moutoa Rd. We shall finish the work of kerbing Johnston St at an early date and as soon as this is done we intend to grade the path. We shall also commence to mix asphalt in yard whenever weather conditions are favourable. —Adopted. WATER. AND DRAINAGE. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer reported as follows on the working at the pumping station carried out during the past, month: — Maintenance Cost: Coal used 1 ton scwt. 3qrs., £3 5/6; oil, ligals., 6/9, wages: water, £23 4/7, drainage 19/6; miscellaneous, including post and wire for artesian pipe lines, £5 13/10, a total of £33 10/2. No. of gallons pumped, 351,000; no. of hours actually spent pumping. 47; cost per 1,000 gallons for pumping, 3LI; no. of hours employed on outside work, 36 hours producing £4 1/2. —Adopted.
