ENTERTAINMENTS

R, L. STEVENSON’S “EBB TIDE.” For thrills, dramatic action, and exceptional appeal, one can safely recommend R. L. Stevenson’s “Ebb Tide,” the leading feature at the Town Hall Cabaret to-night (Tuesday). No one ever knew the South Seas like Stevenson did. No writer ever wrote a South Sea story like “Ebb Tide.” A thrilling fire and shipwreck at sea; a breathless undersea fight with a deadly octopus; one woman who had never had love, and another who had never known anything else —they’re all in “Ebb Tide.” With Lila Lee, James Kirkwood, George Fawcett, and Jacqueline Logan in the cast, produced by the producer of the “Sheik,” and written by a famous author, this picture is truly one of this year’s winners. A Torchy comedy in support. Usual Cabaret prices, Is, no tax. “IVty Friend the Devil” will be the feature on Saturday, whilst the famous Fox masterpiece, “Monte Cristo,” is listed for next week.

“THE DELICIOUS LITTLE

DEVIL.” This long-looked for picture will be shown to-morrow night at the Royal . Featuring, as it does, two famous stars, Rudolph Valentino (who made such a reputation in “The Four Horsemen”) and Mae Murray, who is too well-known to picture patrons to need any introduction, the management should be assured of a crowded house. The picture is a sparkling- comedydrama, and has enjoyed a big run in Wellington and Auckland. Just as a pampered mollycoddle, but the descendant of a fighting line, Douglas Fairbanks is seen in an entirely new role in “The Mollycoddle,” at the Royal on Friday. Doug, plays the part of a young American who has lived a hothouse life in England, and has become one of the supercivilised, monocled, and perfumed type. Then later we see him stowed away on a touring yacht, to be near the girl he loves. He is mistaken for a Secret Service agent by the smuggler captain, and put to work in. the hold. Thrown overboard, he is rescued in a fishing net, then he finds himself on the American prairies, and his real fighting blood comes out. He saves the whole party from death, and becomes a hero in his own fight. Another racing picture, by the same company as “Kissing Cup’s Race,” is promised for Friday; also another of the popular Mermaid comedies, “The Adviser.”
