SCHOOL COMMITTEE
The monthly meeting of the l»cal State School committee was held ou Thursday evening. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Rangiheuea (secretary), Stevenson, Jim. Ross, Pearson, Cowley and the headmaster (Mr Banks). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Coley and Rimmer. Correspondence was received from the Board re free supply »f exercise books and it was decided to apply for same. An offer of library books on sale was made by a country resident. It was decided that owing to the lack of funds, the offer be not accepted.
The matter of school cleaning and heating was discussed and Messrs Pearson and Ross consented to examine the boiler and draw up instructions -for attending to same. The Chairman said the Health Officer an inspection of the school and report on same. The headmaster reported that the attendance was 409 and the average attendance for last week was 361.2. The falling off in attendance was due to inlluenza. Two of the staff had also been absent on account of sickness. Several matters which needed attention were also referred to. The chairman said the attendance compared more than favourable with other schools throughout the district, during the present epidemic. Messrs Rangiheuea and Stevenson were appointed visitors for (he month and were authorised to attend to certain repairs. It was decided to send a letter <>f sympathy to Mr Geo. Coley. Accounts were passed for payment and several minor matters at - tended to.
