JULY GRADING RETURNS

The returns for the grading of hemp, tow, and stripper-slips has been issued by the Department of Agriculture for the month of July, as follows.—

Hemp.—The total number of bal - es graded was 3,180, as compared with 3,015 for the corresponding month of last year, an increase of 171 bales. For the twelve months ending 31st July, 1923, the number of bales graded was 59,637, as compared with 62,029 for the previous twelve months, a decrease of 2,392 bales. Tow. —During the month 876 bales of tow were graded as compared with 768 for the corresponding month of last year, an increase of 108 bales. For the twelve months ending 31st July, 1923, the number of bales graded was 15,558, as compared with 14,209 for the previous twelve months, an increase of 1,349 bales. Stripper-Slips:—During the month there were six bales of stripper slips graded as compared with 32 for the same month last year, a decrease of 26 bales.

The following is the detailed par-

Twelve bales at Auckland, eight at Foxton, 32 at Wellington, and one at Blenheim were rejected. The following shows the number of bales in each grade the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: Good Fair 131 (1,045), High Fair 2,087 (1,329), Fair 860 (470), Common 55 (108), Rejected 53 (54), Condemned nil (3), a total of 3,150 bales.

The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 009, Foxton 439, Wellington 1,710, Blenheim 120, Wairoa 120, Bluff 98. The following is the detailed particulars of the tow graded:—

Two bales at Auckland, four at Foxton and 12 at Wellington were condemned.

The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — First grade 162 (306), 2nd grade 573 (383), 3rd grade 123 (_62), condemned 18 (17), a total of 876 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 9S, Foxton 147, Wellington 416, Blenheim 43, Waikuku 150, Bluff 22. Stripper Slips: At Auckland six bales were graded 2nd grade.
