UNTRUTHFUL ADVERTISING.
INVESTOR LOSES £2OO.
Wellington, Last Night
In the Supreme Court Harold Macknelly was charged that, at Wellington he obtained £IOO from Cecil Rupert Hart by faslely representing that he had the sole right from the Education authorities to distribute advertising matter in schools per medium of the “School Journal.” The Crown Prosecutor said accused came from Auckland and inserted the follow advertisement: “Partnership wanted, £2OO. Sound proposition, £S to £lO weekly. First capable inquirer invests.” The advertisement was seen by two men, Ilnrt and Saunders. Both replied, and Macknelly outlined his scheme to both gentlemen. Hart agreed to invest £2OO, paying £IOO to the prisoner and the balance into tho Bunk of New South Wales as capital. Ilart did some canvassing on behalf of 1 lie company, and discovered that there were others canvassing as well. He instituted inquiries and found that Macknelly did not have the right from the Education authorities. The matter wtts then placed in the hands of the police. Accused denied that he had made false representations, hut admitted that lie had no authority from the Education Boards. He said he kept a confectioner's shop in Auckland, and latterly had been a barman. He was found guilty and remanded for sentence on Saturday.
