YOUNG MAN STABBED.
DISPUTE OVER FOOTBALL. Christchurch, July 30. What appears to be a dispute between two young men on Saturday night over the result of the MaristMerivale football match, ended in one of the combatants being stabbed with a pocket knife in the neck and chest, necessitating his admission to the Christchurch hospital. Only meagre details of the affair have been gathered by the police owing to the reticence of the injured man. The fight occurred in a right-of-way known as Hereford Place, at about 11.20 p.m. As far as is known several young men were present and an argument was started concerning the big football match. The argument developed into a light and a constable whose attention was attracted by the excitement, arrived in time to meet John Flynn, single, twenty-two years of age, labourer, staggering out of the right-of-way with blood oozing from two knife wounds in his neck and chest. Flynn was then in a serious condition through loss of blood, but he did. not want the constable to take any action in the matter. His eon-
dition, however, was such as to require immediate attention, and the constable without delay, had him removed to the hospital. Yesterday the police were unable to interview Flynn about the matter, but to-day his condition has shown considerable improvement.
